Young housewife showing broken washing machine to smiling repairman. Focus on man

If you are debating between repairing or replacing your broken down home appliance, we’ve got something that might help you decide. Our blog below will guide you on the path between repairing or replacing, and help you make cost-effective and informed decisions on your major home purchases. Read more below and learn!

Factor in your Warranty

The first thing you need to assess is your warranty. Do you have warranty left on your appliance? How long do you have before your warranty is up? If you do have warranty, consider using it before replacing your home appliance, because often times that indicates your appliance is on the younger side and may not be ready to kick the bucket just yet.. The good news is that, the majority of times, a repair can be made and you can continue using your appliance. Besides extreme cases where appliances are unable to be repaired, it is likely that you can repair your appliance for much less than the cost of replacing your appliance.

The lifespans of your appliances may very between them. Here is a general expected lifetime of most home appliances:

  • Refrigerator – 13 years
  • Washer – 10 years
  • Dryer – 12 years
  • Freezer – 11 years
  • Dishwasher – 9 years

This is, of course, relative depending on the make and model and care given to the appliance throughout it’s lifetime. The better care given to the appliance, the longer it is able to last. Regular cleaning and maintenance is important. Be sure to routinely check the appliance for things like loose screws and bolts as they need to be tightened right away, if the problem seems too big to do on your own, our technicians are happy to help, we specialize in fixing appliances in Calgary!

Sometimes our appliances far outlast their lifetime and some do not. Compare and investigate your appliance to see any problems with it and judge whether or not it would be worth fixing. Most often with repair, an appliance can see several more years, at least to hold over until you are ready to part with it. Check out our appliance page to see how we can service your appliance here in Calgary.

Of course, with replacing an appliance that you have already accommodated into your home, there can come several specific problems. First of all, you will want to make sure your new appliance fits where the old one once was, meaning the right size, shape, and stature. For example, a double-sided fridge may not fit where your bottom freezer fridge once stood. Be sure your new appliance will not need new electrical or gas components that you do not have easy access to putting in. This can be difficult and daunting work.

Keeping things simple is what we do best, clear concise and quality work is our value at First Aid Appliance. We are standing by and eagerly awaiting your calls for appliance repair in Calgary.
